About the Bioinformatics Centre

University Centre of Bioinformatics, T.M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur was established in the year 2005 under BTISnet Programme by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. It is a matter of great pride for our University that this is the only Sub-DIC Bioinformatics Centre in the State of Bihar.
The Centre is an established unit of T.M. Bhagalpur University and it has been engaging regular classes on Computer application & Bioinformatics for the Post & Under graduate students of Science Faculty and also providing information to the teachers & research scholars for Ph.D. works since its inception. As such it has been acting as integrated information resource on all aspects of research, molecular biological data and Data Mining of Biological resources. The centre has developed adequate infrastructure with good dry lab which has been availed by the teachers, staffs & students of this University. About 150-200 users are taking benefit of it in a month. The centre has also its own research activities on different aspects of plant science & arranging workshop at local, regional & national level. |

Objectives |
- To create awareness regarding the utility of bioinformatics in different branches of biological sciences by organizing workshop/seminar.
- To impart teaching and research activities in the field of bioinformatics to the students, researchers and faculty of biological sciences
- To conduct various training programme/Hands on practices in Bioinformatics by several invited lectures.
- To help various Universities/ colleges for project development & training.

Achievements at a glance |
- Database developed on “Medicinal Plant of Bihar & Jharkhand region”. Anyone can see uses of particular plants, disease symptoms of medicinal plants and what fungi are responsible for causing their diseases.
- Regular theory and practical classes to the M.Sc. Biotechnology and other students of science faculty on Computer Applications & Bioinformatics.
- Assisting research scholars of different department to collect the information from Internet.
- Acquired additional infrastructure facilities including hardware’s, software’s and database.
- Developed a Website (to be uploaded soon) on horticulture crops (Litchi) of this region.
- One book on “Emerging Fields in Bioinformatics” was published by the Centre.

About the Institution

Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, also known as Bhagalpur University, is a public university in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. The University is named after famous freedom fighter Tilka Manjhi. The university was established on 12 July 1960, having local colleges initially associated to Patna University. Its campus is around 264 acres (1.07 km2) of lush green area. The university has more than 36 teaching departments, 30 constituted colleges, 5 Research Centres, 4 self finance courses, and around 24 affiliated colleges,. The university is fully accredited to National Assessment and Accreditation Council. |

- Scientific Software Packages: Exome, Exome Blast, Exome – ED, Widows 2003 Server with xp clients, MS Office, Red Hat Linux server ad. Std and Norton Antivirus for 20 clients.
- Databases and other Information resources: 118 books covering various fields of bioinformatics & Database of Medicinal Plants & dynamics.

- Microbial activities and remediation of pesticides by plant products in relation to nutrient uptake & deterioration of food grains are being carried out in collaboration with P.G. Department of Biotechnology, T.M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur.

- Data generation and data mining of “Effect on Cumin and Curcumin on profenofos treated Swiss albino mice (Mus-musculus)” with the help of different Bioinformatics tools for primer designing specific gene searching, molecular docking.
- Mycological and Biochemical studies on some plants.
- Integrated microbial activities for nutrient uptake.

- Database “mediPDB” developed on “Medicinal Plant of Bihar & Jharkhand region”. Which gives detailed uses of particular medicinal plants, their diseases and fungal pathogenes responsible for initiation of disease condition.
