North Eastern State - Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility
TEZPUR UNIVERSITY, ASSAM.
The DBT funded-Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF)
at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
(MBBT), Tezpur University, was established in the year 2007.
Since its inception, BIF is imparting training in the field
of bioinformatics to M.Sc Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
students, which is a mandate of the Department of Biotechnology,
Govt. of India. To augment this, BIF has also started an
e-Learning Management System (e-LMS) and a quarterly e-newsletter
entitled ‘Tezubioin’ in 2011 and 2010, respectively.
Major research activities
Bioinformatics
research area: Sequence analysis for molecular evolution
and phylogenetic studies, computer aided drug designing
and molecular modeling, protein structure prediction and
assessment analysis.
A comparative compositional study of alkane hydroxylases
in oil degrading bacteria – an in silico approach.
Comparative genomic analysis of lipase producing
gene of Bacillus cereus and in designing a universal
PCR primers.
Study of evolution of transposons in prokaryotic
genomes.
