The center is located in the Cotton College complex as a separate unit attached with the Department of Biotechnology nearest to the Departments of Botany and Zoology. It is equipped with two high capacity Broadband independent servers and connected simultaneously with both BSNL and Sify high-speed Broadband Internet connections as well as the Cotton College website and is routed to ten independent PC terminals accessible to individual users either independently or as batch activity. The setup is capable of functioning twenty four hours a day and is backed up with uninterrupted servo stabilized power supply system and the center is equipped with Bioinformatics software “GENIOUS PRO” in ten terminals.
The objective of the Centre is to provide infrastructural facility for utilization of Bioinformatics for understanding, study and development of Life science and different branches of Biological science. The target area for providing service is the in-house as well as outside and guest students, faculty and research scholars of Biological and allied branches of science.
Along with the primary function of providing Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility, the center also holds periodical workshop and training programmes for sensitization and exposure to Bioinformatics tools and sites to interested newcomers in the field as well as holding and organizing advanced training schedules with interactive participation of National and Regional resource persons and practising Bioinformatists under the target area.

Major research activities
  • The center is utilized in primer designing for PCR application of molecular genetics and molecular modeling for targeted ligand binding of proteins.
  • The first batch of the one year diploma course in Bioinformatics affiliated to the Gauhati University is completed and all the students in the batch cleared the diploma in first class.
  • The software installed in the center are being utilized for project works related with the Biotechnology and Life Science curriculum and a number of papers are published in national and international journals.
