During 2011-12,
the teachers and students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah
University and of various Govt. colleges of the State,
students of INSPIRE programme of Department of Science
and Technology, Govt. of India, visited the Bioinformatics
Centre, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu.
The Coordinator delivered a Special lectures on the applications
of Bioinformatics.
A two days symposium and hands on session on Cheminformatics
was organized by the Bioinformatics Centre on 23rd and
24th September, 2011. During the Symposium, several
lectures and Technical Sessions were held. Renowned
Scientists from various Universities and Biotech companies
delivered the lectures. The Technical sessions had presentations
on Cheminformatics and Life Science softwares. The symposium
provided a wonderful opportunity for the young researchers
to learn new techniques of this discipline. This interaction
helped them to organize their future research in a more
meaningful manner.
The coordinator also delivered lectures in the Departments
of Physics, Computer Sciences and Information Technology
and Environmental Sciences, Botany, Zoology of the University
of Jammu and also in the affiliated colleges.
The Centre organized short training sessions and awareness
programmes on applications of Bioinformatics in solving
the biological problems. The Bioinformatics centre extended
full support in conducting various hands on sessions
and was involved in teaching full fledged course on
Bioinformatics in M. Sc Biotechnology, M. Sc Biochemistry
and M. Sc Microbiology programmes of the University.
The Bioinformatics Centre offered the dedicated internet
facility and training to the students, research scholars
for using the online and offline software, tools to
assist in their research programmes.
