  Dr. Rajanikant G. K., Assistant Professor at the School of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) approached the DBT with the proposal of establishing Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) in the year 2009.

Mission and vision -

  • To undertake advanced research in frontier areas of bioinformatics, computational biology and drug design.
  • To develop most adept human resource in bioinformatics.
  • Organize workshops and hands on training sessions to provide basic knowledge of applications in bioinformatics to College/University faculties, post graduate and Ph.D. students.
  • To establish effective academia-industry interface.
  • To pursue and promote intra-, inter-institutional and international collaborations with leading institutions and organizations.
  • To create world-class platforms for technology development, transfer and commercialization.
  • In this regard, he received the generous financial support from the DBT to establish the BIF centre in the year 2011. Since then, efforts are being made to develop the BIF centre at NITC.
