BTISNET - Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility
Bioinformatics Facility at ICGEB was setup in early 2000 with the help of World Health Organization (WHO/TDR), to establish a Regional Training Centre for Bioinformatics research and training. Since then, the centre has held several International and National training workshops in Bioinformatics for Tropical Disease Researchers from South-East Asian countries. Simultaneously, the centre has been involved in research and development of several bioinformatics tools, databases and analysis- results of which have been published and cited in reputed journals.

The centre was granted support by DBT in 2009 to promote the activities of the centre further. The centre specializes in NGS data analysis, comparative genomics, in-silico screening for lead discovery, Molecular Simulation, Machine Learning algorithms for bioinformatics and development of specialized databases and software packages.

Major research activities

The centre, apart from collaborating with different research groups at ICGEB and other institutes, is actively interested to apply and develop bioinformatics tools to study gene regulatory elements in Plasmodium falciparum, rice and other genomes. The centre is also developing prediction tools for lead discovery, based on artificial intelligence algorithms, focusing development of novel antimalarials.
